What is the standard parking space size in the UK?
A standard UK parking bay is usually 4.8 m long and 2.4 m wide (about 15 ft 9 in × 7 ft 10 in). Some car parks use narrower bays.
What size is a UK single garage?
We assume about 4.8 × 2.4 m inside and 2.1 m high, with a 7 ft × 6 ft 6 in door. Many older garages are smaller.
How much space do I need around the car in a garage?
We call it a comfortable fit with at least 40 cm spare in length and 35 cm in width including mirrors (driving in with mirrors out). A tight fit has at least 20 cm in length and 40 cm in body width with mirrors folded; getting out is a squeeze.
Assumes a UK standard parking bay of 4.8 × 2.4 m and a typical UK single garage of 4.8 × 2.4 m inside (2.1 m high) with a 7 ft × 6 ft 6 in (213 × 198 cm) up-and-over door. Where we have no width-with-mirrors figure we add 20 cm to the body width. Garage: “comfortable” means at least 40 cm spare in length and 35 cm in width with mirrors, driving in with mirrors out; “tight” means at least 20 cm spare in length and 40 cm in body width, mirrors folded. Bay: “comfortable” leaves 30 cm in length and 20 cm each side. Garages and bays vary a lot — measure yours and use the garage fit checker, or see UK garage and parking space sizes. For guidance only.
